Stephanie Bacon has been a teacher for more than 20 years, in a moment of inspiration she took a break from the classroom to get her doctorate and so is now deep into a dissertation that will turn your mind over and over again regarding the beliefs you probably have regarding teachers’ emotional preparation in facing the challenges of today’s students.
Stephanie shares her underlying belief of what education is for – to empower children and prepare them for the world around them – the erroneous focus we have for students and teachers on a cognitive rather than an emotional foundation, and what her contribution may well be when she finishes her studies and goes back into the classroom – that will surely be revolutionary for everyone around her.
I think you’re going to be mesmerised by Stephanie’s ability to encompass a myriad of educational factors in the learning environment, how we need to reconsider our beliefs, and the transparent clarity of her observations of what is important and perhaps what’s not beneficial to our children coming from our politicians’ choices and dictates.
In her own words:
Stephanie is a passionate and fun-loving human who cherishes her two unique and awesome boys, Damon and Parker. Her path includes 20+ years as an educator, a Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, level 2 academic coaching certification, a stint as the teacher’s union president, a divorce (there should be a certification for surviving this), and several drafts of a rewrite on her life. She is currently finishing her PhD by researching the impact of teacher emotional and relational health on teacher and student relationships.
As a teacher, she is dedicated to reducing friction for educators, so they can bring their unique gifts to the classroom to create a dynamic and engaged learning environment. She believes in the power of young people to shape the world and use their creativity to solve our most challenging problems. She knows that kids need social and emotional learning in addition to academic growth to take advantage of what this world has to offer them, but that learning starts with a teacher who is socially and emotionally competent. As a human, mother, and friend, she wants to share the joy and freedom of authenticity with others.
Her website should be in a couple of weeks at www.authenticallyyours.net and people can find her on IG @authenticallysteph2023
